Children & Youth Co-ordinating Minister (CDM) – Job Description

Primary responsibility for the spiritual nurturing of children and youth while working as a part of a ministry team

1/2 Time:  20 hour per week


  • Program development and design for Sunday morning children and youth programming (approx. 10 hours/week), including:
    • program delivery
    • recruitment, training and supervision of leaders to support programs
    • obtaining needed resources and supplies, and accountability for & adherence to budgeting
    • support for the larger church vision to ensure integration of the needs of children, youth and families
  • Program design for Youth Ministry Program
  • Program design for Young Adults ministry program
  • Support and supervision of youth workers for the children and youth ministry program
  • Support and supervision for Nursery coordinator and Wed Morning Parent and tots group coordinator
  • Contact and communication with youth and parents/families at the evening youth group meetings
  • Leadership of the Friday Friends Group (youth in grades 4 & 5)
  • Publicity for children, youth, family and young adult programs and events
  • Care and update of Youth and young adults private Facebook pages and bulletin boards
  • Pastoral care, outreach and counselling for children, youth, and families with children
  • Communication and co-ordination with other staff and the Christian Development Committee in planning and scheduling
  • Leadership in intergenerational events and worship
  • Involvement in extra services and special events

Experience and Competencies:

  • Experience in working with children and youth in a dynamic situation where consistency of attendance can vary
  • Experience and understanding of emotional, intellectual and spiritual developmental stages of children, youth and young adults
  • Understanding and ability to work with children and youth of all types, abilities and special needs
  • Experience in leadership training and design skills
  • Ability to plan programs for multiple ages around a theme
  • Supervision and recruitment skills including communication, problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Grounded in ones own faith tradition and experiences and having a basic understanding of the Christian story and the teachings of Jesus.
  • Progressive theologically
  • Ability to work in a team with other in leadership
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight but able to take responsibility for the outcomes of program design


  • $28- $30 / hr depending on experience and qualifications paid bi monthly as a ½ position
  • Health and dental benefits after 3 months probation period

  • Up to two weeks of study leave plus study leave allowance where applicable
